How to Publish Your AI-Written Book: EPUB, PDF, Text and Audiobook

Your book is finished — now get it off the screen. A practical guide to the four export formats in NovelistAI, which one to choose for Kindle, print or listening, and how to get your book onto a real e-reader.

Finishing a book is the hard part. Getting it out of the browser should not be. NovelistAI exports your finished story in four formats, and each one exists for a different destination: a file you can print, a file an e-reader can reflow, a file you can edit anywhere, and a file you can listen to. This guide explains which to choose and why.

One Button, Four Formats

Open any finished book and click Export. A single window appears with four tabs across the top — PDF, EPUB, Text and Audiobook. Each tab has its own settings, because each format is a genuinely different thing rather than the same file with a different extension.

PDF — For Printing and for Keeping the Design

A PDF is a fixed layout. Every page break, margin and line sits exactly where you put it, on every device, forever. That is what you want when the look of the page matters: a proof copy, a gift, a submission, or anything headed for a printer.

Because the layout is fixed, this is the only format with full typography control. You choose the font family and size, line spacing, text alignment, whether page numbers appear and where, and how the title page is laid out. Books written in non-Latin scripts are handled automatically — the right typeface is selected for Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Hindi, Arabic, Hebrew, Thai and dozens of others, across all 88 writing languages. Right-to-left scripts such as Arabic, Hebrew, Persian and Urdu are typeset with proper letter joining and reading order.

EPUB — For Kindle, Kobo and Apple Books

An EPUB is reflowable. The text has no fixed page size; the reading app pours it into whatever shape the screen is, and the reader decides the font, the size, the margins and the light or dark theme.

That is also why the EPUB panel offers far fewer options than the PDF one, and deliberately so. Baking a font or a text size into an EPUB overrides the reader's own accessibility settings — a real problem for anyone using a large type size or a dyslexia-friendly typeface. So the EPUB export asks only for the author name and whether to include your illustrations, and leaves the rest to the reading app, which is where that choice belongs.

If your book is written in a right-to-left language, the EPUB is marked as right-to-left so readers open it in the correct direction.

Text — For Editing Anywhere

A plain .txt file has no formatting at all, and that is the point. It opens in anything, imports cleanly into Word, Google Docs, Scrivener or Vellum, and is the easiest starting point if you plan to lay the book out yourself or hand it to an editor. There are no settings to choose, because there is nothing to configure. Text export is free on every plan — whatever you write here, you can always take the words with you.

Audiobook — For Listening

The newest format. NovelistAI joins your narrated pages into a single MP3, in reading order, that plays on any phone, car stereo or audiobook app.

It works in two steps. First you narrate: open a page, choose a narrator and generate the audio, page by page, using whichever voice suits the book. You can mix voices across a book, and you can clone a voice of your own. Then you export: the Audiobook tab lists every segment you have narrated, with a player so you can hear each one, and a checkbox so you can leave any of them out — useful if you would rather skip a foreword or a page you intend to re-record. Pages you have not narrated are simply skipped. Building the audiobook costs 5 credits, however long the book is.

Getting Your Book Onto an E-Reader

For a Kindle, email the EPUB to your personal Send-to-Kindle address, or use the Send to Kindle page on Amazon's site; modern Kindles accept EPUB directly and convert it on arrival. For Kobo, connect the device by USB and copy the EPUB into the main folder. For Apple Books, open the EPUB on an iPhone, iPad or Mac and it is added to your library. For an Android phone, Google Play Books will upload an EPUB from your device.

If you intend to publish commercially, EPUB is the format every major store expects, Amazon KDP included. Export the EPUB, read it on an actual device before you upload it, and fix anything that looks wrong in the book itself rather than in the file.

Which One Should You Pick?

Choose PDF if it will be printed or if the design matters. Choose EPUB if it will be read on a device, or published. Choose Text if it is going into another writing tool. Choose Audiobook if it will be listened to. Nothing stops you exporting the same book in all four — most authors eventually do.

Every format is available from the same Export button on any finished book. Start a new book, or open one you have already written, and send it out into the world.
